Last Guardian

End of San Francisco Bay Guardian

When the San Francisco Bay Guardian was suddenly shut down on Oct. 14, 2014, members our community reacted strongly to the news, asking what they could do to help. So at a rally on Oct. 21, I announced the creation of the Guardian-in-Exile Project, which then raised over $26,000 to do a final commemorative edition celebrating the Guardian's history. That issue came out on Jan. 22 as an insert to the San Francisco Public Press, a media organization that I helped found and which became our nonprofit fiscal sponsor.

While working for the Center for Biological Diversity, I regularly made television, radio and newspaper appearances. Here are some samples:

Guest on KQED's Forum discussing opposition to President Trump's proposal to drastically expand offshore oil drilling.

Interview with NBC Bay Area about protecting whales from being killed by speeding ships.

Quoted in Los Angeles Times article about the California Coastal Commission firing its executive director.

Interview with CBS Bay Area about our proposal to study reintroducing grizzly bears to California.

Interviews with KPIX and NBC Bay Area at the A Wake for the Whales event I organized in San Francisco.

The Paper, a Bay Guardian reality show

This video is a sizzle reel created by a reality television crew from Backroads Entertainment that was interested in me and the Guardian, although the show was never picked up by a network. But it's an intriguing bit of history and a look at what might have been.
